Faith & Doubt

He Started With Zero Followers. He Kept Going Anyway.

He Started With Zero Followers. He Kept Going Anyway.

He started with zero followers. No audience. No equipment. Just a phone and stories about his faith that he thought someone might want to hear.

He posted the first video. Then another. Then another. Nobody watched for months.

He kept going anyway.

We act like starting something is about having the resources first. The followers. The platform. The proof that someone will care. We wait for permission that never comes, for a sign that we’re ready. Most of us never start at all.

He started before anyone was listening.

There’s something almost embarrassing about speaking into silence. Publishing work no one asked for. Sharing something you believe in when the metrics say nobody cares. The numbers don’t lie, we tell ourselves. If it mattered, people would show up.

But maybe that’s the whole point. Maybe the test isn’t whether anyone shows up at first. Maybe it’s whether you keep showing up when they don’t.

He kept recording. Kept posting. Month after month. Not because it was working. Because it mattered to him. The stories about his faith, his history, the things he thought someone needed to hear. He didn’t wait for proof. He created it.

What do you keep doing even when no one’s watching?

The audience eventually came. Slowly. Then faster. But that’s not what stays with me.

What stays is the months before. The versions of the video he recorded and deleted. The mornings he woke up and checked the count and it was still zero. The decision to make one more anyway.

Because there’s a particular kind of faith required to start something with no evidence it will work. Not the faith that it will succeed. The faith that it’s worth doing even if it doesn’t.

He didn’t need to convert anyone. He needed to be the kind of person who speaks even when the room is empty.

Some things to sit with:

– What would you start if you knew no one would watch for a year?

– When have you kept going past the point where the numbers said stop?

– What story do you carry that you’re waiting for permission to tell?
